The enjoyment of music is fundamental for everyone: not only listening to it but also participating actively in it. People with disabilities have certain limitations, both physical and cognitive, which make access to the practical aspects difficult. Apart from playing an instrument, dance also constitutes a fundamental form of emotional expression; a way of knowing one’s body better in order to develop physical and mental abilities and build social relationships.
Presentation of the series “Music Books for disAbilities”.
01/28/2010 - News and activities
The event began with speeches by the Regional Minister for Culture and Tourism (Mª José Salgueiro), the President of the Open Music Foundation (Rosa Iglesias) and one of the composers taking part in the project -the winner of the National Music Award David del Puerto. Next followed a concert featuring performances of some of the pieces included in the ten Music Books for disAbilities and the CD Música Abierta, all published by the Open Music Foundation.
Performers were Ananda Sukarlan (piano), David del Puerto (guitar), Sergi Giménez Carreras (tenor), Daniel Bolado (vibraphone) and Carlos Cano Zarza (trumpet). The event drew an almost full house, given the interest aroused by the project and the performers' high standards.
