The Open Music Foundation successfully closed the course on physical interaction targeted at people affected by cerebral palsy and their caregivers which has been taking place over the last few days at San Fernando’s cerebral palsy centre (UPACE). Read more...

The first item in the morning session was a series of workout routines led by Josepha Dietz before students followed Robert Wechsler’s overview of some theoretical underpinnings of the EyeCon programme. Later in the day the students attended the first interactive workshop with people affected by cerebral palsy and met in groups in order to design exercises to be practised over the next day.

First day in the EyeCon training course: on Monday both Robert Wechsler and Josepha Dietz provided therapists at the UPACE Centre with an overview of motion tracking systems and their potential in the treatment of physical and/or cognitive impairment. Next they directed a series of body-motion routines before starting intensive work on the EyeCon system.

The wokshop’s third and final day gave us the opportunity to check out some proposals involving the “creation” of music through body movement. Robert Wechsler and Josepha Dietz engaged the collaboration of some of the people from the Obregón Cerebral Palsy Centre as well as a group of mobility impaired students from the José Zorrilla School of Secondary Education. During the morning session, a group of students with reduced mobility from the José Zorrilla School of Secondary Education put up a number of sound pieces created through body movement.

Robert Wechsler and Josepha Dietz (Palindrome Intermedia Performance Group, Germany) discussed several motion tracking techniques which they are currently developing as well as their applications for people with disabilities.

On Friday 4 May the OMF will be holding an open day from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm at the IES Zorrilla in Valladolid (Pza. de San Pablo). The event has been scheduled within the framework of the 2nd Interactive Dance Workshop.

On Friday 13 April there will take place a formal presentation of the OMF organized by the Music School itself and Madrid’s Regional Ministry of Education.

Coinciding with the International Day of People with Disabilities, the exhibition opened to a large crowd on 3rd December.
