The enjoyment of music is fundamental for everyone: not only listening to it but also participating actively in it. People with disabilities have certain limitations, both physical and cognitive, which make access to the practical aspects difficult. Apart from playing an instrument, dance also constitutes a fundamental form of emotional expression; a way of knowing one’s body better in order to develop physical and mental abilities and build social relationships.

Catalan tenor Josep Carreras has confirmed his support for the Foundation’s project .

Message of support sent by Mr. Carreras on January 4th, 2010.

Dear friends of the Open Music Foundation,

As a professional and a lover of music, I would like to send you my personal message of support. It gave me a great pleasure and a feeling of respect to learn about the work you do in order to facilitate access to music for people suffering from any disabiliy -whether physical, cognitive or sensory. Music is a universal language for artistic expression and as such it belongs to everyone alike: the more open the access to music is, the greater the cultural wealth of our society will become.

The true integration of people with disabilities necessarily involves facilitating their access to whichever sphere of life where they may attain self-fulfillment as human beings, as well as making such adaptations as may be required for this purpose. No doubt the musical calling is one such sphere. The publication of your Music Books for disAbilities is an example of sound team work performed to very high standards and at the same time with a passionate committment: two requirements which are inherent to the practice and the love of music.

I would like to convey to you all my most sincere congratulations for your work and to encourage you to continue to develop your projects so that music becomes available to everyone without discriminations or barriers.

Receive my warmest regards,

Mr. Josep Carreras
